Frequently Asked Questions
What do you want to know?
Start here with these FAQs, then schedule a tour to explore the possibilities of sending your child to Trinity.
What are your school hours?
Trinity’s school day runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
What is Trinity’s curriculum like?
Our curriculum is driven by children’s needs rather than by high-stakes tests. We recognize the value of play and the fine arts and the importance of higher-order thinking skills. Our students give speeches, write research papers, and create posters. They sing often and learn to play instruments. They perform on stage, visit nursing homes, study history, and discuss literature. The Christian faith is integrated across the curriculum, preparing our students to think and respond to the world with Biblical insight.
Special education services are provided through the Jackson County Intermediate School District. Our small size and multi-grade classrooms allow a unique level of flexibility to be able to instruct all students at the level that’s right for them.
Do you use standardized tests?
Student achievement is measured annually through the NWEA.(https://www.nwea.org/whats-new-for-back-to-school/) As a private school, we are able to avoid the use of the high-stakes, high-pressure, politically-driven tests required of public schools.
Is a TLS education affordable?
We intentionally keep our rates low to allow as many families to enroll as possible. Tuition for a family’s second child is even lower, and a third and fourth child are free. Scholarships are available through our church’s generous scholarship program. We use a company called FACTS to help determine eligibility.
Our families can qualify for free and reduced-price lunches & breakfast.
Are TLS teachers credentialed?
Our full-time teachers are state certified and highly qualified to teach all subjects. They hold endorsements in reading, social studies, music, language arts, and early childhood education. All have specialized credentials in teaching the faith, ensuring that our classrooms reflect the love of Jesus.
Do you offer outdoor education?
We are blessed to be located next to the Jackson Audubon Society’s Kate Palmer Sanctuary, where our upper-grade students can study the creek, wetlands, natural wildflowers and birds. In the spring, they guide our younger grades through the sanctuary to enjoy the fields of trillium in bloom.
Each October, grades 6 to 8 spend two days at Camp McGregor on Crispell Lake, studying God’s creation and enjoying the woods, lake, and a campfire.
Do you offer music classes?
Trinity offers both beginning and advanced band for grades 5 – 8th, as well as choir. Our advanced band and choir participate in the Lutheran music festival at Concordia University in Ann Arbor. Kindergarten – 4th grade also have weekly music classes. Click here to learn more.
Members have the opportunity to perform during worship services at Trinity, as well as in two school concerts each year. Both groups perform secular and sacred pieces.
What extracurricular activities are available?
Co-ed Cross Country and Track (Learn More), Lego Club, Board Games Club, Outdoor Club and Drama Club
Do students use technology?
Trinity provides an iPad or laptop to every student. Classrooms have interactive whiteboards, and wi-fi is available throughout the building. Students’ grades are available online for parents to view.
Do we have to be Lutheran?
No. Trinity is open to all families looking for a personalized education stressing high academic standards and Christian-based values. Because growth in faith and discipleship is central to our purpose, we look for families to participate in their home church, whichever one that might be.
Can parents participate in the life of the school?
Of course! It’s expected! Parent/teacher conferences are held twice a year. The fun activities that the PTA, our parent group, plans throughout the school year depend on parent involvement. Plus we rely on parental involvement for field trips, class trips, parties, work projects, and many other activities.
What are your childcare hours?
Our Early Childhood Center is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. We are often open even when local day schools, including Trinity’s, are closed.
Do you have an extended care program?
Affordable before- and after-school care for school-aged children is available 7-8 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. (Students must be pre-registered through our Early Childhood Director.) A daily afternoon bus transports students from Western Elementary School to Trinity for our aftercare program.
Is your childcare staff qualified?
* Our staff members are trained in early childhood education or a related field and teaching experience.
* They are dedicated to serving your family within a Christian and loving atmosphere.
* They have current first aid and CPR certificates.
* They partner with with parents in caring for and teaching their children.
